When the Machine Always Tells You You're Right

AI tools are built to please us. They return what sounds right and reinforce what you already thought. This keynote is about why that eagerness to agree is the most dangerous feature of the most powerful tool we have ever put in a classroom or a team. It asks where judgment actually comes from, and what changes now that your people generate far more than they evaluate. The closing argument is uncomfortable on purpose: whoever never learned to distrust a beautiful result is not freer with the machine. That person is its slave.

A Question Can Be a Complete Brief

CCWEAROS started with a question I asked while looking at my watch: could I talk to Claude Code from here? There was no business case and no plan, just a curiosity I decided to follow, and following it produced an open source product I now use every day. This talk makes the case for budgeting curiosity in creative teams: what a question with no justification attached can teach, and why the judgment earned on play projects is what the paying projects run on.

    The Two Doors

A hands-on workshop built on the method I have taught at Isthmus for 15 years. Each participant brings one real project and walks it through the two doors my own work enters through: did it start from curiosity or from research? We build its studio wall, we give it a crit with three honest weaknesses, and we write down what it taught. People leave with their project read more clearly than they brought it, and with a method they can repeat without me.
